Collection: Alfred Dehodencq
Edmé-Alexis-Alfred Dehodencq (1822–1882) was a French painter trained in Paris. He emerged within the Orientalist movement, specializing in oil paintings of Andalusian and North African subjects. His work is marked by vivid color and direct observation of local customs and dress.
Dehodencq’s canvases often depict street scenes, festivals, and domestic interiors rendered with a bold, unidealized realism. His technique combines academic finish with plein-air immediacy, particularly evident in works such as "A Turn in the Road" (1873), where light and atmosphere are treated with equal attention to ethnographic detail.
