Collection: August Kopisch
August Kopisch (1799
1853) was a German poet, writer, and painter. Born in Breslau, he later died in Berlin. He received his artistic training at the art academies in Prague and Vienna, subsequently practicing as a landscape and history painter.
Kopisch worked as a painter in Dresden between 1819 and 1822. A hand injury then curtailed his painting career. In addition to his visual art, he was an inventor and a translator, notably of Dante Alighieri's writings.
He undertook extended periods of residence in Italy.
