Collection: Daniel Thomas Egerton

Daniel Thomas Egerton (1797–1842) was a British landscape painter. He was an original member of the Society of British Artists, where he exhibited from 1824 to 1829 and again from 1838 to 1840. His early career established him within the British art scene before he spent significant time abroad.

Egerton dedicated much of his later life to depicting the landscapes of Mexico. In 1840, he published Egerton's Views in Mexico, a portfolio of twelve colored lithographs executed from his original drawings, accompanied by descriptive text. These works provided a visual record of the Mexican terrain.

His painting The Valley of Mexico (1837) is held in the British Government Art Collection, and another work, The Ravine of the Desert (The Valley of Mexico), was sold at Christie's in 2007. These examples reflect his engagement with the Mexican landscape as a subject.
