Collection: Darío de Regoyos
Darío de Regoyos y Valdés (1857–1913) was a Spanish landscape painter born in Ribadesella and who died in Barcelona. He trained under Carlos de Haes at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in 1878 and later at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Regoyos was a member of the Belgian art group L'Essor and a founding member of Les XX, engaging with the avant-garde scene.
Regoyos traveled extensively in the 1880s, often accompanied by the painter Adolfo Guiard. His work reflects a significant influence from Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painters, contributing to the renewal of modern Spanish painting. His oeuvre includes urban landscapes such as El paseo de Alderdi Eder (1894) and social commentary in works like La España Negra: Víctimas de la fiesta (1894).
Though his art did not achieve widespread popularity during his lifetime, a tribute exhibition was held posthumously at the Biblioteca Nacional de España in Madrid. Collections of his work are now held in institutions such as the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, and the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga.
