Collection: Edmund Leighton

Edmund Blair Leighton (1852 –1922) was an English painter born and active in London. He received his training at University College School and later at the Royal Academy of Arts. Leighton specialized in historical genre scenes, particularly those depicting Regency and medieval subjects, and his art is associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement.

Leighton's artistic output focused on historical genre scenes, with a particular emphasis on medieval and Regency subjects. While associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement, his artwork maintained a more naturalistic and less stylized quality, often depicting chivalric narratives and romanticized historical moments.

Leighton exhibited annually at the Royal Academy between 1878 and 1920. His romanticized historical paintings were popular during his lifetime, with works now held in various British museums and private collections.
