Collection: Édouard Detaille

Jean-Baptiste Édouard Detaille (1848–1912) was a French academic painter and military artist. He trained under Meissonier and exhibited at the Salon in 1867. Detaille was recognized for his precision and realistic detail in depicting military subjects, earning him the designation as the "semi-official artist of the French army".

Detaille specialized in military life and historical battles, often focusing on individual soldiers. His realistic historical paintings, such as Combat for the Colors (1874) and Mon Ancien Regiment (1881), depicted war scenes and army life with accurate detail. He frequently portrayed Napoleon I and his army.
