Collection: Eduard Hildebrandt
Eduard Hildebrandt (1818-1868) was a German landscape painter born in Danzig, who later died in Berlin. He received training in Paris under Eugène Isabey and was associated with the realistic Munich school.
Hildebrandt specialized in landscapes, often depicting his travel impressions in watercolors. His journeys around the world inspired works such as "Santa Cruz, Rio de Janeiro" from 1843, "The Needles, Isle of Wight" from 1847, and "On the Somme" from the 1840s. He painted very colorful, light-emphasizing landscapes, a style that led him to be considered a strong colorist.
Hildebrandt became a professor at the Berlin Academy of Arts.
