Collection: Edwaert Collier

Edwaert Collier (1642 1708) was a Dutch painter active during the Golden Age. Born in Breda, he later worked in England. He specialized in still-life painting, particularly vanitas and trompe-l'œil compositions.

Collier's oeuvre primarily consists of meticulously rendered still lifes that often incorporate symbolic elements characteristic of the vanitas genre, reflecting on the transience of life. His trompe-l'œil works demonstrate a precise illusionistic technique, creating the impression of three-dimensional objects on a flat surface.
