Collection: Edward Henry Potthast

Edward Henry Potthast (1857–1927) was an American Impressionist painter. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he undertook studies at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München in 1882. He worked as a painter, landscape painter, graphic artist, and illustrator, later settling in New York, NY, where he died.

Potthast developed an Impressionistic style, depicting people at leisure in sunlit outdoor settings. His canvases frequently featured scenes from Central Park and the beaches of New York and New England, often portraying families and children along the coast. He also produced figure, interior, landscape, and marine paintings.
