Edward John Poynter (1836–1919) was an English painter, designer, and draughtsman. He served as President of the Royal Academy from 1896 to 1918 and as Director of the National Gallery from 1894 to 1905. His work aligns with academic art.

Poynter's artistic output included both easel paintings and decorative designs. He created tile designs for the South Kensington Museum's Grill Room and designs for a teaset. His paintings, such as The Festival and The Golden Age, often depicted classical or allegorical subjects, reflecting his academic approach.
