Collection: Edward von Steinle

Eduard von Steinle (1810 –1886) was an Austrian painter and printmaker. Born in Vienna, he later died in Frankfurt am Main. He was associated with the Nazarene school, spending 1828 –33 in Rome with artists from this movement.

As a member of the Nazarene movement, Steinle's work aligned with their focus on religious and historical subjects. His artistic practice encompassed both painting and printmaking, reflecting the movement's revivalist aesthetic.

Frederic Leighton studied under Steinle. In Frankfurt-am-Main, a street is named Steinlestrasse in his honor.
