Collection: Edwin Blashfield
Edwin Howland Blashfield (1848–1936) was an American painter and muralist. He executed numerous large-scale decorative commissions, including the murals adorning the dome of the Library of Congress Main Reading Room in Washington, D.C.
Blashfield's mural work frequently engaged with allegorical and historical subjects. His studies for commissions include "Minnesota, Granary of the World" for the Minnesota State Capitol and "A Group of Men Representing Various Branches of Human Thought" for the Great Hall of the College of the City of New York. He also produced a mural study for "The Edict of Toleration of Lord Baltimore" for the Baltimore Courthouse.
