Collection: Elioth Gruner

Elioth Lauritz Leganyer Gruner (1882 1939) was an Australian artist. He emerged as a successor to the plein air Heidelberg School tradition, developing a distinctive approach to high-key impressionist landscapes. Gruner's work consistently focused on capturing the ephemeral effects of light.

Gruner received the Wynne Prize for landscape painting seven times. His ability to render light was noted by Norman Lindsay, who stated Gruner "painted the purest light that ever has been seen on a bit of canvas." Among his works, Spring Frost (1919) is a significant example, held in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
