Collection: Elisabetta Sirani

Elisabetta Sirani (1638–1665) was an Italian Baroque painter and printmaker from Bologna. She was among the first women artists in early modern Bologna and a significant practitioner within the Bolognese school. Sirani died in unexplained circumstances at the age of 27.

Sirani produced public altarpieces and privately commissioned pictures, often depicting large-scale historical subjects. She also founded an academy in Bologna for other women artists, contributing to the development of a female artistic lineage.

Her prolific output, attributed to over 200 works, positioned her as a late representative of the 17th-century Bolognese school. Sirani was also admitted as a member to the Accademia di San Luca in Rome.
