Collection: Ellsworth Woodward

Ellsworth Woodward (1861–1939) was an American artist and art educator. Born in Seekonk, Massachusetts, he and his brother William Woodward established New Orleans as their home around 1876. The brothers became influential figures in Southern art during the late 19th century, promoting Southern culture and art as artists, teachers, and administrators. Woodward founded the Newcomb Pottery movement.

Woodward's artistic practice included landscape-structure and genre subjects. He also worked as an etcher. His most notable contribution was the establishment of the Newcomb Pottery movement, which fostered a distinctive regional craft tradition.
