Collection: Emil Bauch
Emil Bauch (born 1820, Hamburg) was a German painter, lithographer, and teacher. He established his residence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he was active. Bauch painted panoramic city scenes and portraits, in addition to views of Recife and Salvador. He worked in Brazil during the second half of the nineteenth century.
Bauch's artistic practice encompassed panoramic city scenes, portraits, and landscapes, including views of Recife and Salvador. His landscapes are conspicuous for their close observation of details and the intense variety of motifs in his palette. He worked as a painter, lithographer, and educator.
Despite his activity in Brazil, Bauch's works have largely receded from prominence, overshadowed by paintings created by other artists during the latter half of the nineteenth century in the region.
