Emil Filla (1882–1953) was a Czech painter, graphic artist, and sculptor, born in Chropyně. Active primarily in Prague, he became a leader of the avant-garde and an early Cubist painter. He was also an art critic and writer.

Filla's artistic output engaged with Cubism, establishing him as a leading representative of Czech Cubism. His work also incorporated elements of Expressionism, reflecting a broader avant-garde sensibility in Prague.

Filla led the avant-garde in Prague between World War I and World War II. He contributed to the discourse on modern art through his painting, sculpture, graphic work, and art criticism.
