Collection: Emilio Longoni
Emilio Longoni (1859–1932) was an Italian painter. Born in Barlassina or Seveso, he studied at the Brera Academy in Milan from 1875 to 1878. In 1882, he met Giovanni Segantini, who introduced him to gallery owners Alberto and Vittore Grubicy. Longoni established himself as a painter in Milan in 1886, primarily creating portraits for the city's nobility and bourgeoisie. He participated in the first Triennal de Brera in 1891.
Longoni adopted a Divisionist style in his work, and is also identified as a Neo-Impressionist and Pointillist. While his early career focused on portraiture, he later participated in numerous international art events between 1900 and 1932. Following the First World War, Longoni became increasingly reclusive.
