Collection: Emmanuel Lambardos
Emmanuel Lambardos (1567–1631) was a Cretan Renaissance painter. The name Lambardos was notable in Cretan art, and the family was affiliated with painters Franghias Kavertzas and Tzortzi Papadopoulo. Lambardos emulated artists such as Georgios Klontzas, Michael Damaskinos, Angelos Akotantos, Andreas Pavias, Andreas Ritzos, and Nikolaos Tzafouris.
His style employed the typical maniera greca with a strong Venetian influence. Over fifty-six icons have been attributed to Lambardos, many depicting the Virgin and Child. Distinguishing his work from that of his nephew, also named Emmanuel Lampardos, proves challenging due to their concurrent activity and similar signing conventions.
Lambardos influenced a generation of artists including Franghias Kavertzas, Emmanuel Tzanes, and Philotheos Skoufos. His work is represented in institutional collections; for instance, the Musée du Louvre acquired his painting La Cruxifixion in 2023.
