Enrique Simonet Lombardo (1866–1927) was a Spanish painter born in Valencia. He initially studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos of Valencia and later received a scholarship to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. His work primarily aligned with Realism.
Simonet's oeuvre encompassed allegorical subjects, landscapes, and portraits. As a war correspondent, he also produced charcoal sketches. In 1890, while in Rome, he painted Anatomia do coração (Anatomy of the Heart), also known as Autópsia, a work that garnered international recognition and awards. While his early output was academic, later works showed influences of Symbolism and Impressionism.
