Collection: Ernst Ferdinand Oehme

Ernst Ferdinand Oehme (1797–1855) was a German Romantic painter and illustrator, born and active in Dresden. He trained as a painter and draftsman, specializing in landscape and watercolor painting. His early works show the influence of Caspar David Friedrich, under whom he was a disciple.

Oehme specialized in moody landscapes, often incorporating architectural elements. His landscape paintings expressed an intense romantic sense of the picturesque.

Between 1819 and 1825, Oehme resided in Italy, where he received influence from the Nazarenes. He maintained a close friendship with the painter Ludwig Richter, and their works share numerous common points.
