Collection: Ernst Oppler

Ernst Oppler (1867 –1929) was a German Impressionist painter and etcher born in Hanover. He was a founding member of the Berlin Secession, a significant artistic group active in the German capital.

Oppler worked as a painter, etcher, and graphic artist. From 1909, he developed an enthusiasm for Russian ballet, becoming a visual chronicler of 20th-century stage dance. His works include depictions such as "Karina Arÿ, Dancing" and "Jan Borlin and Karina Arÿ."

Beyond his artistic practice, Oppler was also an art collector. A portion of his estate is preserved in the German Dance Archive Cologne.
