Collection: Ethel Gabain

Ethel Léontine Gabain (1883–1950), also known as Ethel Copley, was a French-Scottish artist. She worked primarily as a painter and lithographer, and was a founding member of the Senefelder Club. Gabain produced oil portraits, particularly of actresses, and was one of the few artists of her era able to sustain herself through the sale of her lithographs.

Gabain's artistic output extended beyond painting to include etchings, dry-points, and posters. Her lithographic work often depicted female figures, exploring themes of domesticity and contemplation. Examples include "The Virgin of the Column" (1908) and "The Linen Cupboard" (1914), which typify her engagement with everyday life and introspective subjects.
