Collection: Eugène Isabey

Eugène Louis Gabriel Isabey (1803–1886) was a French painter, lithographer, and watercolorist. Born in Paris, he worked in the Romantic style. He was the son and pupil of Jean-Baptiste Isabey, and later taught his nephew, Eugène Cicéri.

Isabey primarily depicted marine and coastal landscapes, often featuring ships and port scenes. His oeuvre includes works such as "Cliffs by the Sea at Cézembre, Brittany" (c. 1830) and "Interior of a Port" (1833), demonstrating his focus on maritime subjects. He also created genre scenes and architectural views, as seen in "Église de St. Nectaire" (c. 1830–32).

Isabey was among the first members of the Society of French Watercolorists. His approach to marine painting and landscape has been noted for its stylistic similarities to Bonington.
