Collection: Eugenio Landesio

Eugenio Landesio (1809 1879) was an Italian painter and lithographer, born in Venaria Reale. He trained under the Hungarian landscape painter Károly Markó the Elder. Landesio later became active in Mexico, where he taught at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City from 1855 to 1873.

Landesio's artistic practice encompassed painting and engraving. His tenure at the Academy of San Carlos was significant for his contributions to landscape painting. He exercised a notable influence on the development of Mexican landscape art during his years as a professor.

This influence extended to later exponents of Mexican landscape painting, including José María Velasco, who studied under Landesio. His pedagogical role shaped a generation of artists in the genre.
