Collection: Eugenio Lucas Velázquez

Eugenio Lucas Velázquez (1817–1870) was a Spanish painter working in the Romantic style. Born in Madrid, he was referred to as Eugenio Lucas Padilla in nineteenth-century sources, a detail that has caused some historical confusion regarding his full name. He died in Madrid.

Lucas Velázquez primarily depicted genre and costumbrista scenes, frequently integrating fantastic elements into his compositions. He also painted war scenes and figures, and engaged in fresco painting. His artistic approach often drew from the styles of Diego Velázquez and Francisco de Goya. A significant challenge in studying his oeuvre is the scarcity of signed works, which complicates attribution.
