Collection: Evelyn De Morgan

Evelyn De Morgan (born Mary Evelyn Pickering in London, 1855–1919) was an English painter. She associated early in her career with the later phase of the Pre-Raphaelite Movement, and also worked in styles including Aestheticism and Symbolism.

Her figural paintings foregrounded the female body, employing spiritual, mythological, and allegorical themes. De Morgan utilized metaphors such as light and darkness, transformation, and bondage to convey spiritualist and feminist content. Later works addressed war themes from a pacifist perspective, engaging with conflicts like the Second Boer War and World War I.
