Collection: Frank Blackwell Mayer

Francis Blackwell Mayer (1827–1899) was an American genre painter. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he resided primarily in that state. He traveled to the western frontier in the mid-19th century and pursued studies in Paris for five years during the 1860s.

Mayer's artistic output encompassed oil paintings, watercolors, pen and crayon drawings, engraving, and illustration. His subjects included Native Americans, documented through a series of drawings made during his western travels, and various historical themes.
