Collection: Franz Ludwig Catel
Franz Ludwig Catel (1778-1856) was a German painter, wood sculptor, engraver, and illustrator, born in Berlin. He established himself in Rome in 1811, spending most of his career there as a romantic artist.
Catel's body of work includes landscapes and architectural views, frequently depicting Italian vistas. Notable examples include Inside the Colosseum (c. 1823) and A View of Naples through a Window (1824), which illustrate his engagement with the Roman and Neapolitan environments.
