Frederick Judd Waugh (1861–1940) was an American painter and illustrator, born in Bordentown, New Jersey. He established himself primarily as a marine artist, focusing on seascapes and landscape painting. His career spanned from the late 19th century into the mid-20th century, during which he became recognized for his depictions of the ocean.
Waugh's artistic output was largely dedicated to marine subjects, capturing the dynamic qualities of the sea. Beyond his easel work, he applied his visual expertise to practical applications during World War I, designing Dazzle ship camouflage for the U.S. Navy. This specialized work was conducted under the direction of Everett L. Warner. He was also a member of the National Academy of Design.
