Collection: Frits Thaulow

Frits Thaulow (1847–1906) was a Norwegian painter and graphic artist, born in Christiania (now Oslo). He is identified as an Impressionist painter and a significant figure in Norwegian landscape painting of the 19th century. Thaulow also spent time in Paris, where he became familiar with plein air painting.

Thaulow's artistic output centered on naturalistic depictions of landscapes, with a particular focus on snow and flowing water. His technique evolved over his career, with his later paintings adopting a lighter, more impressionistic quality. He was instrumental in establishing the Norwegian school of plein air painting.

From the 1890s, Thaulow frequently resided abroad, including extended periods in Paris, where his works were exhibited at the Salon de Paris. He was a significant 19th-century Norwegian artist internationally.
