Collection: George Hitchcock

George Hitchcock (1850-1913) was an American painter born in Providence, Rhode Island. He spent most of his active career in Europe, particularly in the Netherlands, where he founded the Egmondse School.

His paintings often featured religious subjects, including The Blessed Mother (1892) and The Annunciation (1887), alongside genre scenes such as Flower Girl in Holland (1887). These works reflect his focus on the local environment and people during his time in the Netherlands. As the founder of the Egmondse School, Hitchcock established a localized artistic movement centered in Egmond aan Zee.
