Collection: Gerold Hunziker
Gerold Hunziker (1894–1980) was a Swiss painter and graphic artist. Born in Aarau, he trained within the Swiss artistic milieu of the early 20th century alongside his twin brother, Werner Hunziker, who also pursued a career as an artist.
Hunziker’s work emerged during a period marked by the dissolution of academic conventions and the rise of modernist experimentation, though his own practice remained rooted in figurative traditions.
Hunziker’s work features precise draftsmanship and a restrained palette, often depicting domestic interiors, still lifes, and portraiture. His graphic work, including etchings and lithographs produced in Zurich and Basel, shows a command of linear economy and tonal modulation. While his subjects avoided overt symbolism, they conveyed quiet introspection, influenced by regional realism and modernist formal concerns.
