Collection: Hans Rottenhammer and Jan Brueghel the Elder

Jan Brueghel the Elder was an artist active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, working within the Baroque tradition. His oeuvre includes both detailed landscapes and still life compositions. Works such as A Hilly Landscape with Figures Near a Ravine (1595) exemplify his engagement with these genres.

Brueghel's landscapes often depict natural settings, as seen in An Overshot Watermill in a Wooded Landscape from the late 16th or early 17th century. He also rendered scenes with travelers and boats, and his still lifes, like Bouquet of Flowers in an Earthenware Vase (c. 1610), demonstrate a meticulous approach to botanical subjects.
