Jan de Baen

Jan de Baen (1633-1702) was a Dutch portrait painter active during the Dutch Golden Age. He trained under Jacob Adriaensz Backer in Amsterdam from 1645 to 1648. From 1660 until his death, de Baen resided and worked in The Hague.

De Baen specialized in portraiture, creating likenesses for many individuals of his era. He received commissions from notable figures, including Charles II of England during his period of Dutch exile. His portraits were widely sought after in his time.

His son, Jacobus de Baen (1673-1700), also pursued a career as a portrait painter.
