Collection: Jaume Ferrer the Younger
Jaume Ferrer the Younger (1400-1461) was a painter active in Lleida, Catalonia, during the late International Gothic period. He trained in the workshop of his father, Jaume Ferrer I, which operated in Lleida. His documented works span the 1450s, including the altarpiece for the city’s municipal council.
Ferrer’s altarpiece "Virgin of the Ediles" (1451-1454) remains in situ at Lleida’s Paeria (city hall). The panels feature gold-leaf backgrounds, tempera on wood, and finely detailed textile patterns typical of Catalan Gothic devotional art.
His "Annunciation" (c. 1457) in the Cleveland Museum of Art employs hierarchical scale and symbolic flora, such as lilies, to convey theological narratives.
