Collection: Johannes Abrahamsz Beerstraten

Jan Abrahamsz Beerstraaten (Amsterdam, 1622–1666) was a Dutch painter active during the Dutch Golden Age. He specialized in marine art, winter landscapes, and cityscapes. His oeuvre includes depictions of naval engagements, particularly from the First Anglo-Dutch War and the Dutch-Swedish War.

Beerstraaten's subjects extended to detailed portrayals of ports, such as Civitavecchia, and various cityscapes of Amsterdam and other Dutch towns. He documented specific architectural features, including castles, churches, and other buildings, some of which no longer exist. His work provides a visual record of these historical and topographical elements.

His sons, Abraham and Anthonie Beerstraaten, also pursued careers as painters, continuing a family tradition in art.
