Collection: John Haberle
John Haberle (1856–1933) was an American painter specializing in the trompe-l'œil style. He worked primarily in the last quarter of the 19th century, creating still lifes of everyday objects. Haberle is considered a significant figure in American trompe-l'œil painting, alongside William Harnett and John F. Peto.
Haberle's technique involved rendering objects with such precision that his paintings could be mistaken for the actual items. His subjects included ordinary objects, still lifes, and notably, used banknotes and photographs. His depictions of currency led to a warning from the United States Secret Service.
