Collection: Jules Breton
Jules Adolphe Aimé Louis Breton (1 May 1827 – 5 July 1906) was a 19th-century French naturalist painter. His paintings are heavily influenced by the French countryside and his absorption of traditional methods of painting helped make him one of the primary transmitters of the beauty and idyllic vision of rural existence.
He studied under Félix de Vigne, Égide Charles Gustave Wappers, and Horace Vernet. His style took its cues from François Bonvin. Among his canonical works are Calling in the Gleaners and The Blessing of the wheat in Artois.
The work sits within the Realism tradition, specifically the French Realism current.
