Collection: Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach
Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach (1851–1913) was a German painter and social reformer. He is identified as an independent representative within Symbolism, an artistic movement that emerged in the late 19th century. Beyond his painting, Diefenbach also worked as a sculptor.
Diefenbach championed social reform movements such as Lebensreform, Freikörperkultur, and pacifism. His rural commune, Himmelhof, established near Vienna between 1897 and 1899, directly inspired his student Gustav Gräser, who subsequently founded the Monte Verità settlement.
