Collection: Le Dominique
Le Dominique (also recorded as Dominique de Roux or Le Jacques, Dominique) was active in France in the mid-17th to mid-19th centuries. Documentation places him as a draftsman and engraver specializing in topographical views and equine subjects. His earliest dated work, "Villa Aldobrandini sive varii illius hortorum et fontium prospectus" (1647), demonstrates a command of linear perspective and the conventions of Roman veduta.
Le Dominique’s oeuvre is marked by precise, almost architectural draftsmanship. The "Prospectus quo Palatium atque Theatrum" series (1650–75) employs orthogonal projection to render the Farnese gardens at Caprarola, while later sheets such as "A team of horses driven in a rocky landscape" (c. 1825–70) shift to looser, more dynamic linework, suggesting a transition from courtly commissions to Romantic-era animalier subjects.
His technique remains consistent: fine etching or drypoint on laid paper, often heightened with selective gouache.
