Collection: Miguel Pou

Miguel Pou Becerra (24 August 1880 – 6 May 1968) was a Puerto Rican painter, draftsman, and art professor. Trained in oil on canvas, he emerged in the early 20th century as a local exponent of Impressionism. His career spanned over six decades, during which he mounted 64 exhibitions, including 17 solo presentations, and received five gold medals in regional competitions.

Pou’s work oscillated between plein-air landscapes and figural studies of Puerto Rican rural life. His palette favored broken tones and rapid, visible brushstrokes, while his subject matter, bathers, native girls, laborers, reflected a turn-of-the-century interest in local identity.

Later works, such as "Scarf (Commemorating the Siege of Leningrad)", introduced overt political symbolism, juxtaposed with the earlier Impressionist idiom.
