Collection: Modiano

Sara Modiano (1951–2010) was a Colombian sculptor, painter, and installation artist. Born in Barranquilla, she trained at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá and later expanded her practice in Europe and the United States. Her work emerged within the context of late 20th-century Latin American conceptualism, intersecting with post-minimalist and site-specific installation traditions.

Modiano’s practice synthesized painting, sculpture, and spatial intervention, often employing industrial materials and modular forms to explore themes of memory, displacement, and urban fragmentation. Her installations frequently incorporated found objects, light, and architectural elements, creating immersive environments that challenged conventional distinctions between object and space.

Works such as those exhibited in "Nine Artists from Colombia" (1978) and "Campo Grafico" (1939) reflect her engagement with both local artistic collectives and broader transnational avant-garde movements.
