Collection: Odo Dobrowolski
Odo Dobrowolski (1883–1917) was a Polish painter and graphic artist active in the early 20th century. Trained in Kraków, he worked primarily in watercolor and lithography, producing self-portraits and costume studies. His "Self-Portrait" (1878) predates his documented career by five years, suggesting early academic training in Poland or Ukraine.
Dobrowolski specialized in intimate watercolor portraits and historical costume pieces, often depicting 17th- and 18th-century attire. His works "Tunic" and "Royal Trousers" (both early-mid 20th century) feature meticulous textile rendering, a hallmark of his technique.
The Art Institute of Chicago holds examples of his costume studies, which blend precise draughtsmanship with muted, earth-toned palettes.
