Oswald Achenbach, born in Düsseldorf on February 2, 1827, and deceased there on February 1, 1905, was a German painter. He was associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting and worked primarily as a landscape painter. Achenbach also served as a professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.
Achenbach specialized in landscape painting, demonstrating a command of color and effective use of staffage. His technical skill contributed to his contemporary recognition as an important European landscape painter.
Through his teaching activities, Achenbach influenced the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He and his older brother, Andreas Achenbach, also a landscape painter, were humorously known as "the A and O of Landscapes".
