Collection: Sir William Beechey

Sir William Beechey (1753–1839) was a British portraitist born in Oxfordshire. He was admitted to the Royal Academy Schools in 1772. Beechey later became a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, working primarily in London-Hampstead.

Beechey initially specialized in small-scale portraits. In 1793, he painted Queen Charlotte, who subsequently appointed him official painter. His sitters included notable figures, exemplified by his portrait of Fieldmarshal Arthur Duke of Wellington (1814).
