Collection: Solomon Joseph Solomon
Solomon Joseph Solomon (1860–1927) was a British painter born in London. He was a founding member of the New English Art Club and a member of the Royal Academy. Solomon, whose family was Jewish, established himself as a painter, a profession also pursued by his sister, Lily Delissa Joseph.
Solomon specialized in portraiture and dramatic compositions depicting mythological and biblical narratives.
During the First World War, Solomon made significant contributions to the development of camouflage, particularly in the design of tree observation posts and through his advocacy for camouflage netting. He also served as president of the Royal Society of British Artists from 1919 to 1927.
