Collection: Théodore Géricault

Jean-Louis André Théodore Géricault (26 September 1791 – 26 January 1824) was a French painter and lithographer. His best-known painting is The Raft of the Medusa. Despite his short life, he was one of the pioneers of the Romantic movement.

His formative teachers included Pierre-Narcisse Guérin and Carle Vernet. Notable paintings include The Raft of the Medusa, Head of a white horse, Portrait of a Kleptomaniac, and The 1821 Derby at Epsom. His practice spanned portrait. Within his body of work, the French Romanticism current is dominant.
