Wilhelm List (1864–1918) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist, engraver, and illustrator. Born and active in Vienna, he was a proponent of Jugendstil. On April 3, 1897, List co-founded the Vienna Secession alongside other artists in the city.
List's artistic practice encompassed painting, graphic arts, and illustration, aligning with the aesthetic principles of Jugendstil. He was deeply involved in the artistic movement of painting, sculpture, and architecture known as Jugendstil at the turn of the 20th century.
As a co-founder of the Vienna Secession, List played a role in establishing this influential artistic association in Vienna. The Secession movement, which he helped initiate, gave its name to the broader artistic style in the German-speaking world.
