William Degouve de Nuncques (1867–1935) was a French-born Belgian painter associated with Symbolism. He trained at the Académie d'Elsene and was a pupil of Jan Toorop. Degouve de Nuncques was involved with the literary group Jeune Belgique and was a member of Les XX (1884-93) and La Libre Esthétique from 1893.
Degouve de Nuncques developed a distinctive style, often depicting nocturnal landscapes imbued with a strange atmosphere and visionary subjects. His compositions frequently presented nebulous and frayed forms. While his overt symbolist qualities were most pronounced until around 1900, he continued to produce evocative landscapes into the early 20th century.
He worked in Catalonia and Mallorca between 1900 and 1902, where his landscapes influenced artists such as Mir during his Mallorcan period, Sebastià Junyer i Vidal, and the Pollença school. His exhibition at Sala Parés in Barcelona in January 1902 garnered significant attention. He also worked in the Netherlands from 1914 to 1918.
